As a candidate for the Texas State Board of Education, I have the unique experience of serving in various teacher and leader roles as well as serving at all levels of the public school system. Sharing my experiences and what I see are next steps in supporting educators in their work as they continue to serve Texas students has been rewarding. As I seek to earn the vote of communities in District 13, I will continue my work in ensuring that I listen to the voices of those who engage with the public school system and share my thoughts of how we can move forward together.
Dallas Alumnae Social Action Committee
This weekend, I attended the Primary Preview Meet and Greet event sponsored by the Dallas Alumnae Chapter and North Dallas Suburban Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma, Theta Sorority, Inc. I had the opportunity to chat with voters and other candidates about the importance of having representation on the State Board of Education with lived experiences in Texas public schools including District 13. I shared about my experiences as a 28 year veteran of education and the needs that our schools have that impact overall student growth and achievement and suggested policy decision to help mitigate these challenges.
South Dallas Super Tuesday
On February 3rd, I attended the Super Tuesday. Candidate form in South Dallas. I shared with residents what led me to run for the SBOE District 13. We need representation that understands teachers' and leaders' experiences, knows what our students need, and understands parents' and the community's concerns about their children's education.
MLK Day of Service
I joined members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated on January 19th for our annual MLK Day of Service. We volunteered at the Many Helping Hands Ministry in Irving, Texas, organizing clothing donations for distribution to families Alpha Beta Phi Omega Chapter in need.
